Day 1

Understand the rules, principles, and key components of Job Profiling, and the impact profiles have on HR and remuneration processes.

  • The importance of Job Profiling, and how it affects all HR and Remuneration processes;

  • The basics of Organisational Design and Job Profile context;
  • The purpose and value of Job Profiles;
  • The definition of a Profile and the important terminology used during the profiling process;
  • Job Profile writing rules;
  • The preparation processes when planning a profiling project, including various information sources and materials needed, and different methods for gathering accurate information to ensure the most accurate outcome;
  • The role of HR vs that of the managers during the profiling process;
  • Key components of a valid profile template;
  • Concepts of writing an accurate profile using correct profiling language;
  • How to perform effective interviews and what type of questions to ask;
  • Helpful tips and guidance to ensure success.

Learn to interpret the fundamental principles of Job Evaluation using the Paterson Job Evaluation methodology.

  • Compare the various Job Evaluation systems,
  • Understand the theory and principles of Paterson Job Evaluation methodology,
  • Understand the basic principles of the other JE systems.

Day 2-3

Understand the role of remuneration in the organisation and best practices:

  • What a Job Profile is and how it impacts all the other HR and Remuneration processes;

  • Overview of Paterson Job Evaluation foundations, rules, and Principles;
  • Basics of salary structuring (Pay Scales, Surveys, and Equal Pay for Work of Equal Value);
  • Total Package overview and benefits;
  • Performance Management and Performance Related Pay (PRP);
  • Overview and considerations when linking Pay to Performance)
  • Variable pay (overview and basics of Long Term and Short Term Incentive design principles;
  • Basics of employee engagement and Career Paths;
  • Basics of remuneration strategy.

The responsibilities, duties, authorities, roles, and functions of a remuneration committee, and its relationship to the Board;

  • Whom to appoint and why;

  • Remuneration strategy in relation to your organisation’s characteristics and differing needs;
  • How to set CEO pay;
  • How to analyse Salary Surveys;
  • Pay Structures;
  • Total Guaranteed Package and Performance Related Pay and their principles, definitions and guidelines;
  • Short- and Long-term Incentives (both in the private sector and in the public sector) – design considerations, structuring, best practice, funding;
  • Strategic remuneration issues.
