Business is a game of numbers and it is essential to understand what the numbers mean – financial knowledge is essential! Develop usable (rather than theoretical) financial knowledge through this mix of lecturing, discussions and practical exercises.

HR practitioners, non-financial operating managers.

Are there any prerequisites for attending this course?

Course content and outcomes

At the conclusion of this course the delegate should understand:

  • Operational efficiency, in particular working capital management,
  • Measures of operating profitability,
  • How to identify measures of profitability that are most relevant for operations;
  • The drivers of value creation and how to develop relevant key performance indicators and incentives,
  • How to create incentives for value creation,
  • How to calculate the net amount of capital used in a business and its cost,
  • How to manage a balance sheet to create value from capital, in,particular working capital,
  • How to reconcile cash flow and income statement profits,
  • How to construct a cash flow statement and be able to break down overall cash flow into its operating, investing and financing components,
  • The difference between accounting and economic profits,
  • The three financial statements and the linkages between them.
